Niagara Falls USA: 45-Minute Jet-Boat Tour on Niagara River

About This Experience
The American-side twin of the Canadian jet boat: the same operator, the same 45 minutes, the same Class 5 water in the Niagara Gorge — boarded from the waterfront boardwalk in the village of Lewiston, New York instead of from Queenston across the river.
The route runs upstream into Devil's Hole, where the gorge narrows and the river stacks into standing waves, and includes the full-rotation spin the boats are built for. Because the border runs down the middle of the channel, both departures work the same rapids — the practical difference is which side of the river your hotel is on and whether you want to cross a bridge on the day.
Between the fast sections the guide narrates the gorge: the power stations, the old portage routes, the geology of a canyon the river has been cutting backwards for twelve thousand years, and the shipping and smuggling history of the lower Niagara. It is a genuinely informative ride with the volume turned up in the middle.
As on the Canadian side, you choose between the open Wet Jet, which soaks everybody aboard, and the domed Freedom Jet, which runs the same water with the windows shut. Lewiston is about a 15-minute drive from downtown Niagara Falls, New York, with free parking at the dock.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the Lewiston jet boat depart from?
From the Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours office at 115 South Water Street on the Lewiston waterfront boardwalk, about a 15-minute drive from downtown Niagara Falls, New York. Parking at the dock is free. Arrive 45 minutes before departure for check-in and the mandatory safety orientation.
Is the American jet boat tour different from the Canadian one?
Not in what you experience. Both are run by the same operator, both last 45 minutes, and both work the same Class 5 rapids in the Niagara Gorge — the international border runs down the middle of the river, so neither side has a monopoly on the whitewater. Choose by logistics: book Lewiston if you are staying on the New York side, and Queenston if you are on the Ontario side, and you skip a border crossing either way.
Do I need a passport for the Lewiston jet boat?
Not for the boat ride itself, which stays on the river and does not land in Canada. You will need your passport only if your own travel plans involve crossing the border by bridge to reach the dock. Bring photo ID regardless — it is worth having on any trip in the Niagara corridor.
How wet will I get?
On the open Wet Jet, thoroughly — a poncho is supplied but does not keep you dry, and a full change of clothes plus a towel is the standard advice. On the domed Freedom Jet you stay dry behind closed windows while running the same rapids. Free lockers at the dock take phones, wallets and keys.
What are the age and height limits?
Riders must be at least 44 inches tall for the open Wet Jet and 40 inches for the domed boat. Anyone under 13 or under 100 lb cannot sit in the first three or four rows, under-18s must be accompanied by an adult, and the tour is not suitable for children under 6 or for pregnant travellers.
When does the Lewiston jet boat season run?
The boats operate from spring through mid-autumn and shut down for the winter — the lower Niagara is not a year-round river for this kind of craft. The operator sets exact opening and closing dates each year, so check live availability rather than planning around a fixed date.
